Feathers are valuable

July 3rd, 2009: Danbury, CT Parrot Rescue:

Linda responded to an emergency call from Danbury Police Animal Control. We drove up to Danbury and picked up four birds. The previous owner passed away several days prior. The birds were in the basement; the conditions in which they'd been living were terrible. Hadn't seen the sun in who knows how long.

Coincidentally, Linda recalled a help call visit we'd made to the same location about twenty years ago. She treated one of these rescued birds! Conditions were horrid then, and never got any better.

Birds are: a Jenday Conure, Bronze Wing Pionus (the constant eater!), a probable Yellow Crown Amazon and an unknown type (possibly Orange Wing) of Amazon. After the plucked feathers are replaced with healthy ones, we will be able to determine the breed.

As you can see from some of the photos, they have a split leg band, which indicates a wild-caught bird. This is a clue that the bird was born prior to the Wild Bird Conservation Act of 1992. (Or, subsequently illegally imported into the U.S.)
